MUMBAI: Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan will attend a Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) meeting scheduled on April 6 to get feedback from grassroots party workers in view of the upcoming elections in the state.
The Congress has started preparing for elections to 27 Zilla Parishads, over 300 Panchayat Samitis later this year and 10 municipal corporations , including the BMC, in early 2012.

Deliberations on whether or not the Congress should go it alone in these polls are likely to be the highlight of the meeting. The meeting , organized by MPCC president Manikrao Thakare, is aimed at seeking the advice of party stalwarts on the issue.
AICC general secretary in charge of Maharashtra Mohan Prakash will be felicitated during the meeting. Said MPCC general secretary Sanjay Dutt, “Prakash will share his views on how we can improve the party’s performance in the upcoming polls.” Union ministers Vilasrao Deshmukh, Gurudas Kamat, Murli Deora, Mukul Wasnik, Pratik Patil and Sushilkumar Shinde will attend the meeting.
MLAs are upset with the aggressive nature of its poll ally, the NCP, and the inadequate budgetary allocation for development projects in their constituencies. Most believe that the party would be better off without the NCP.
